Karen (Rubin) Elson previously served as Assistant Director and Branch Principal for Kol Ami Community Hebrew School and as Religious School Director at Temple Israel.

     Ms. Elson, a Dayton native, also served as Education Director at synagogues in McAllen, Texas and Bloomington, Illinois. She has a B.A. from the University of Cincinnati, and an M.A. in Judaic Studies/Jewish Education from Hebrew Union College. She holds teacher, principal, and R.J.E. (Reform Jewish Educator) certification from the Reform Movement.

     Karen is married to Rabbi Jeffrey Elson, who serves Beth Abraham Synagogue in Zanesville. They have one son, Daniel.

This year, each grade will have a family education program tied to a holiday or to their curriculum. Watch your Friday e-mail from the Education Department for details.

You will see by the Family Education Calendar that a number of past events will be repeated: Bar/Bat Mitzvah Learning Service and Brunch, Shabbat Shirah at the Dublin Rec Center, Bar/Bat Mitzvah Vendor Fair, Family Participation Service, Mitzvah Mall, Havdalah in Pajamas and, of course, month Tot Shabbat and Junior Congregation services.

Adult learning opportunities continue as well: The now-intermediate Hebrew class continues to meet at 10:30 AM on Thursday mornings. If there is sufficient interest, a new beginning class will form. Other than books, these classes are free, and are open to members only.
