Hebrew
School
Hebrew
Education concentrates on liturgy, Bible and an introduction to
Modern Hebrew. Students participate in and lead services during
school sessions. Hebrew classes are offered in grades 3-6 and are
required for Bar or Bat Mitzvah, the preparation for which includes
private study with a tutor and with Rabbi Huber. Two enrollment
choices are offered for Hebrew School on Wednesdays: 4:30 –
6:15 PM and 6:30 – 8:15PM. The Sunday morning Religious School
session for these grades includes a half hour of Hebrew reinforcement.
Our average enrollment in our Hebrew School program is approximately
110 students.
Beth Tikvah
Hebrew School Program Goals
The goals of the Beth Tikvah Hebrew School program are to develop
learners who:
•Are able to participate meaningfully in worship services,
not only in their own synagogue, but in any synagogue by provding
a firm foundation in prayer.
•Grasp that Hebrew is a living language by learning basic
vocabulary and grammar as an introduction to modern Hebrew. Our
curriculum includes more than prayer.
•Demonstrate a grounding in the basic building blocks of Hebrew
(roots, prefixes, suffices), so that they may build their understanding
of prayers, Bible, and modern language.
•Achieve a level of competence which will lead to a meaningful
Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony.
•Recognize values, concepts, and holiday observance through
the use of the Hebrew language and Hebrew songs.
•Are inspired with a love of the Hebrew language and with
an appreciation of the importance of the place of Hebrew in Jewish
life.
