Ritual Committee

Stu has been a member of Beth Tikvah for over 25 years.  He serves on the finance committee as well as being Ritual Committee chair.  For some 20 years, he has coordinated and led the 2nd day Rosh Hashanah service at Beth Tikvah.  He often conducts the service and chants Torah at Ritual Committee led services.

"Stu is Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Administration in the College of Engineering, and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at The Ohio State University. He chaired the CSE Department for 11 years before becoming Associate Dean. Stu also has been president of the major professional society in computing (the Association for Computing Machinery), and of the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board, and served as chair of ABET's Computing Accreditation Commission."

Join this devoted group of members who are rabbis at heart. This group is involved in all the ritual elements of the synagogue from planning and conducting services during the Rabbi's absence and assisting with the High Holy Days to identifying the ritual needs of our congregation and providing a forum for discussions about ritual observances.

For further information about the Ritual Committee or if you are interested in serving on the committee, please contact committee Chair Stu Zweben (zweben@cse.ohio-state.edu).

From the April 2010 Tikvah Topics:

On behalf of the Ritual Committee, a Chag Pesach Sameach to all. May the joy of freedom that this holiday commemorates never be taken for granted.

During February, the Ritual Committee again was busy ensuring that Shabbat services were conducted in the absence of the Rabbi, who was on his annual study leave. Unfortunately, the snow forced cancellation of one of these events, and we missed the leadership of Barb Mindel and Karen Elson, who prepared diligently for the Family Participation Shabbat. Nevertheless, let me thank them for their efforts. But there were three other Friday evening services, and a Shabbat morning service, so in addition my thanks go to: Aaron Auerbach, Chloe Amsterdam, Dan Betzel, Kye Betzel, Parker Blumberg, Bradley Davis, Chris Davis, Bob Fisher, Mike Fliegel, Brendan Gandal, Shelley Grieve-Zerkel, Vosh Hallowell, Dawn Heyman, Ted Horwitz, Matthew Jacobs, Otto Kramer, Jeffrey Kreindler, Ellie Levine, Bob Lewis, Jonah Marger, Madison McCarthy, Taylor Pressler, Tara Rozen, Joe Russell, Julie Sapper, Jacob Spaulding-Schecter, Jacob Shafran, Jeremee Trepp, Candace Weiss, Michele Wilbert, Leia Withee and Yena Zerkel. Hopefully I didn't miss anyone, but if I inadvertently did, please excuse me.

We have another Shabbat morning service scheduled for May, so watch next month's Tikvah Topics for information.
