An Open Greeting to the Women of Beth Tikvah ~

In the last few months I have been working with the Sisterhood board to get ready for the coming year.  As this is my first year as president of sisterhood I thought it would be a good time for me to write to you, introduce myself, and tell you a little about sisterhood.

I grew up in Delaware, Ohio; at Oberlin College I got my first taste of being a part of a Jewish community.  In 2000 I moved to Columbus and started to feel the spark of curiosity about my Jewish identity.  I found my way to Beth Tikvah . Almost immediately I met women who were involved with sisterhood.  These women became my close friends and I quickly joined the sisterhood board. I am excited about the future and hope that I can help you get the most out of sisterhood.

Beth Tikvah Sisterhood is vibrant group of women who reflect the diversity of our congregation.  Among our members we boast college students, grandmothers, professional women, and work-at-home moms.  Because our organization has such a variety of members we try to have extensive programming throughout the year that meets the needs and sparks an interest in all our members.  We invite all women of Beth Tikvah to join us and take advantage of this opportunity to share your ideas, get involved, and make some friends.  To become a member of sisterhood you pay just $18.00  (Chai) for the first year of membership and $36.00 (Double Chai) for the years following.

Some our most popular events and groups are our Hanukkah Sale, Break-Fast Celebration, Passover Events, SWEET Dinners (Sisters Who Enjoy Eating Together), Erev Shabbat services conducted by sisterhood members, monthly book clubs, SuperMahj, guest speakers and workshops!  We welcome all women to our events and have open board meetings regularly.

Service to the synagogue and community is a fundamental part of sisterhood. Over the years we have provided furniture and supplies, beautiful Torah covers, and financial donations to the Camp Scholarship Fund.  The Women of Beth Tikvah are an energetic, caring and spiritual group.  We are continually changing and growing.  As our mission statement says, we want to “reach our potential as Jewish women,” therefore we are always open to new ideas and strive to meet and exceed the needs of all women at Beth Tikvah.

I hope you have a fun, fabulous, and fruitful 5768!

Join in the Joviality and Joyful Spirit of Beth Tikvah Sisterhood!

“Sisterhood is a group of women who join together in friendship for service to the temple, social interaction and spiritual growth so that we may reach our potential as Jewish women.”

This wonderful goal is the mission of the Beth Tikvah sisterhood. I am honored to be President of this organization. We have a board that meets in open meetings about every six weeks to plan events and develop programs for the women of Beth Tikvah.

Whether you are looking to build friendships, nurture your soul, expand your mind, serve your congregation, or just have fun, Sisterhood is for you. This organization is designed to appeal to women of all generations and cater to multiple interests and dynamics. An integral part of Beth Tikvah for forty years, Sisterhood provides a myriad of opportunities to its membership and our congregation, including:

Sisterhood Registration Form (download Adobe Acrobat Reader)

SWEET Dinners (Sisters Who Enjoy Eating Together): This is a terrific way to meet other women of Beth Tikvah. (The first SWEET Dinner I attended was actually on my birthday when I had just moved to Columbus and really hadn’t met anyone! I had a great time and made some friends!) So don’t be shy and join us as we try out new restaurants and return to old favorites together. We try to schedule these dinners about every other month and welcome restaurant suggestions.

Gift Shop: As you come into Beth Tikvah be sure to have a look at the incredible selection of gifts that are available! View our Sisterhood Gift Shop web page.

Sisterhood/Brotherhood Shabbat: Over the last couple of years we have joined with Brotherhood to lead the congregation in a Friday night service. This is a wonderful opportunity to work together and share in the preparation, study and overall mitzvah that is working on this project!

Women of Reform Judaism: Beth Tikvah Sisterhood is an affiliate of this national organization. The WRJ provides a network for sisterhoods throughout the country. There are volunteer opportunities at the district, regional and national level. It is inspiring and energizing to see and hear what other temple sisterhoods are experiencing!

Events That Matter to YOU: It is my personal goal as president to be as available as I can to the women of Beth Tikvah! I hope that you will join sisterhood this year and that you will not hesitate to e-mail or call me with ideas that are relevant to you. The Sisterhood board is committed to creating experiences and working to make sisterhood a vibrant, fun and exciting organization.
