EDUCATION
Teen Program
Our School’s Mission
To instill within our learners a love of Judaism through the study of Jewish history, liturgy,
Torah, holidays, ethics, customs, and values, and to inspire them to embrace their heritage and lead Jewish lives both inside and outside our Jewish community.
Middle School
6th Grade
B’nai Mitzvah Learning Lab
- Enable students to connect with the themes of their B’nai Mitzvah Shabbat prayer, create meaningful Mitzvah Projects, and strengthen their Jewish identities and connection to the community.
- Provide opportunities for pre-B’nai Mitzvah students and parents to deepen their knowledge of the historical and cultural context of B’nai Mitzvah.
- Address the concerns that pre-teens face and explore ideas of personal growth, self-reflection, and communication through a Jewish lens.
7th Grade
Seeing Ourselves in Jewish Text
- The 7th grade experience is built on the idea that each individual is a part of the story of our people.
- 7th graders and their parents participate in the Columbus Jewish Historical Society Project, a unique 1-session genealogy-based program with expert facilitators.
- Families will learn about the History of Jewish Columbus and gain the skills to explore their own family history and connection to Judaism.
**Enrollment in 7th grade and regular attendance is required for students in the B’nai Mitzvah process.
Post-B’nai Mitzvah
8th & 9th Grade B’Yachad:
Tikkun Olam Together
By this time, our teens recognize that they can make a difference in the world and are committed to taking action and living by their Jewish values post-B’nai Mitzvah.
With this in mind, we’ve designed a unique learning experience for our 8th and 9th graders at Beth Tikvah. Teens experientially live out their Jewish values through direct action at sites across the community.
Past volunteer sites have included the Worthington Resource Pantry, National Veterans Memorial, Ronald McDonald House, Wexner Heritage Center, and many more!
High School
10th Grade
Confirmation
Taught by Rabbi Rick Kellner, the primary goal is for students to examine the ways in which
Jews have understood God over time and to construct their own perspectives. We will also pay attention to Israel and current events.
Confirmation students will explore Social Justice advocacy and participate in the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism’s L’Taken Social Justice Seminar in Washinton, D.C.
11th & 12th Grade
Mitzvah Corps
(Meets once per month) – Continue your Jewish learning with your Beth Tikvah friends and make a direct impact on the community!
One night per month, we will spend two hours gathering for dinner, studying text, and volunteering at Star House — and incredible organization that addresses youth homelessness in Columbus.
Teens DO NOT need to be confirmed to participate.
